You make my list

Don't you really love it when one of your all-time favourite songs comes on the radio? Driving into town this morning I was blessed with this playing over the airwaves... and even though I don't have a 'Top-whatever List' - because that would be impossible - I'm happy to say that Too Young, you would definitely be in that list were there one. One of the best pop songs ever? I don't know, but pretty close!

Tully

I'm in the midst of re-reading this novel... probably for the 4th or 5th time?? I first read it in my late teens. It was the second Paullina Simons novel I read, after Red Leaves I think. I didn't put it down for a week, it's one of those books. The only thing that's probably ever come close is The Bronze Horseman, also by Paullina. I've never really been a romancey/novel kind of girl, I usually read biographies and non fiction, and when I was younger alot of crime. But Tully captivated me. And, to explain why I'm re-reading her now (her because she is indeed real, and a person), I find that I find Tully again whenever I need some sort of inner guidance for my life.. it's hard to articulate but the things that happen in this novel somehow give me better clarity on my own love life, and it sounds very silly but I am already feeling better after reading for a week now, although I am almost finished the book and a little anxious of what I'll do afterwards (re-read Bronze Horseman?? haha). I also find it extremely comforting to have such a distraction from the turbulence inside my own head, and losing myself in the life of Tully Makker is welcomed. So even though it's a pretty screwed up story, and Tully at times is not a very sympathetic character, this novel has had a positive effect on my life. I see alot of Robin in my Andrew. And I just had to write about this because I find it utterly romantic and just a little bit extraordinary.

Photobooth

All I have to show for the past 2 weeks away from blogging are bad photobooth shots and an internal struggle which has almost turned my life upside down. I thought I'd already had my quarter life crisis... !

I think I'll post more later... off to the beach!

Oh blog. Having a not-so-great week. So not much to say that I'd like to put out there if you know what I mean? Maybe for tomorrow instead? Chooks are settling in okay. Only one named so far - 'Spitfire' Pretty self explanatory haha. Their day pen is almost finished - photos soon.

My friends, how desperately do we need to be loved and to love - Chief Dan George

It has been a long week.

I have watched my closest Aunty, my dad's sister, lose her man, the love of her life. I have devoted myself to her this week, as I could do nothing else, and still it doesn't ease her pain. Her partner was killed on his motorbike, on a social ride on Sunday morning, with a close group of friends they call 'the church' because of their sunday morning ritual. He was 52. The funeral was friday, and I am exhausted.

Andrew also bought chickens yesterday, so now we have 3 more animals running around. Crazy weekend trying to finish off their house and monitor dog-chicken relations and try to get them settled in. Photos soon :-)

We went to the Brisbane Roller Derby on saturday night, my first one ever, they're trying for a revival of it over here, even though the teams have been competing underground for awhile I think they're trying to bring it back to the mainstream. Photos of that when I get them off Sarah :-)

And.... I handed in my 3000 word breastfeeding assignment, so I'm feeling somewhat relieved.. still I am so so behind, another big one due this week. I'm exhausted. Did I say that already???

Work, last Tuesday?? Getting cold - felt like first proper Autumn day. Newly thrifted vintage wool vest, thrifted white belt, skirt & red stockings - I can't remember

Wednesday - funeral planning in morning and work in afternoon.
Thrifted red dress, Thrifted shoes $3, cat secondhand too haha

Andrew and I at the wake. This dress has seen 2 funerals and a wedding in the past 6 months - and nothing else I don't think

A night in the valley

Saturday night - drove some of the girls from work down to brisbane to see Andrew Morris play at the Powerhouse. Dinner at Tibetan Kitchen - I had my favourite-to-die-for Tofu Curry. It's made with sour cream, coconut milk, lime and coriander. New thrifted necklace - it was a bit expensive at $15 but it's lovely and kind of aztec designed.

Chicken for brains

When we get our chooks in the next month or so, once their house is finished, I'm going to get them from here http://homesforhens.net/index.html

They're ex-battery cage chickens given a new life, free of cruelty and confinement. Here's some photos from their website.

1 month on at new home

The next 3 pics are the first day out of the battery farm

And here's the Cage-free campus campaign I coordinated at uni last semester, along with the fabulous help of Sally and my chicken friend Rhiannon and Lacey. We got over 300 signatures, and once I can get myself organised - will be taking our proposal to the head of catering operations to stop the use of cage eggs in all campus food outlets. Very sad day

Bob Dylan - I Shall Be Released

They say ev’ry man needs protection,

They say ev’ry man must fall.

Yet I swear I see my reflection

Some place so high above this wall.

I see my light come shining

From the west unto the east.

Any day now, any day now,

I shall be released.

Murals by Ellen

My very good friend Ellen (who I'm going to see Andrew Morris with tonight yay) is a beautiful beautiful lady, and she also paints amazing wall murals.. as well as other crafty things in her spare time from being a teacher. You can see some of her mural work here http://ellensmurals.blogspot.com/

Dogs laugh with their tails

Seen as though it's saturday, and my weekend will be spent working on assignments with these guys for company - I thought I would pay tribute to the 4 very special furry people in my life (plus the fish). So here's a random collection of pictures of Rusty & Bambi my dogs, Myf and Tiny (Snowcat) my kitties, and Blue Fish. A friend of mine has recently lost her life-long four legged friend, so I'd like to dedicate this to Jacko, and also to Hollie - who's going through her own little battle right now. xxxxxx
